The Fashion Show Wedding Cocktail Hour

We’ve historically had requests for “New York City” style cocktail hours featuring house music and other trendy music. Inspired by our participation in a recent hair art fashion show that had us playing in the style of New York Fashion Week, we’ve put together a themed cocktail hour playlist.  To reflect the expanded musical range of the typical upscale fashion show, we’ve include a variety of musical genres including R&B, deep house, 80s and Nu-Disco.  Representative artists include Sade, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Kaskade, Disclosure and Todd Terje.

For a signature drink, we’ve selected the distinctive Negroni, a cocktail that mixes gin, Campari and vermouth – garnished with an orange wedge.  Sip it slowly, as this cocktail packs a punch!  To learn how to mix a Negroni, click here.

Care Couture Hair Art Fashion Show 2017

Ambient DJ Service was honored to participate in this year’s Care Couture Hair Art Fashion Show held on Sunday February 19, 2017 at the Boathouse at Mercer Lake in Mercer County Park in West Windsor New Jersey.  This event, in its third bi-annual installment, featured local salons who donated their time and talent in order to dress up models with cool hair art and clothing.  The salons then showcased their styles during a chic runway show.  This year’s show incorporated 45 models from 15 New Jersey salons, featuring three themes:  Ocean, Earth and Seasons.

The net proceeds from the show are donated to the Breast Cancer Resource Center located at the YWCA in Princeton, NJ.  The funds are specifically used to purchase wigs for breast cancer patients who can’t afford them.  Supplemented by a tricky tray fundraiser, 2017’s event raised more than $10,000 that will be donated to the BCRC of Princeton.  It was a packed house with good vibes all night long!

Ambient DJ Service participated in this year’s show in three ways.  First, our DJ Gregg Ambient spun the tunes for the fashion show, featuring sexy house music in the spirit of New York or London Fashion Week.  Second, relying on the skills of our lighting guru Chris Dalagelis, aka “Chris the Greek” – we uplit the runway and incorporated intelligent moving heads to spotlight the models and otherwise create an exciting, upscale club-like environment as per the vision of the organizers.  Finally, we donated a free DJ entertainment service to the tricky trays.  Helping to entertain the crowd this year were emcees Anthony Vincent and Alyse Tapper from Anthony Vincent Salon in East Windsor, NJ.  This duo did an incredible job!

The Spa Sessions Wedding Cocktail Hour

Mobile DJs tend to take a physical beating on the job between hauling heavy gear and spending long hours on our feet.  Through the years, I’ve come to appreciate the value of the spa.  I particularly enjoy foot massages.  At my last spa session at the Sky Nail Zone in East Windsor,  a pedicure and foot massage was enhanced by a delightful soundtrack featuring Broadway show tunes, classical music and crooners.  The music had a very cinematic feel.  Inspired by the experience, I compiled the following playlist with artists like Yo-Yo Ma, Erik Satie, Michael Crawford, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman and Chris Botti.

If this playlist is too mellow for your wedding cocktail hour, then consider it for the honeymoon or a spa day with your bridesmaids.
